Let’s face it…life with two young boys does not provide many moments of peace these days. In fact, it’s probably the emotion I feel the least. Relocating to a new city, learning the ropes of a new job, and developing a new family routine translates to feelings of anxiety, stress, and exhaustion.
When Melissa and I decided our emotion would be “Peaceful” this month, I figured I would make an image of one of the boys reading or drawing. However, one evening I found myself alone at home and noticed some beautiful light coming into the backyard as the sun was setting. I grabbed my camera, ran outside, and lost myself experimenting with the light and different perspectives. I should have been cleaning the house, folding laundry or making dinner. But instead, I was doing something that fed my soul and brought a sense of peace. When my boys came home and burst through the door, my arms were open to receive their hugs and my mind was clear to devote my attention to listening to what they had to share.
This image was created during that time. I hope it reminds me to take time out for myself every so often as it benefits my whole family. May we all seek out moments of peacefulness.
Be sure to see Melissa’s peaceful image for this month.
